GOAL KEEPING
Goalkeeping is one of, if not the most, skillful position on the soccer field, it is also highly considered one of the most difficult positions to train as most coaches are not specialized in training goalkeepers. Goalkeepers are a team's last line of defense, he/she has the capacity to win or lose the game given his/her skill and knowledge. Therefore, it is American Soccer Academy's highest priority to help develop goalkeeping skills and stress the importance of the goalkeeper's role in soccer in order to help elevate the skill of any given player willing to wear a pair of goalkeeper gloves.
Our program consists of six, eight, ten, or twelve intensive one hour weekly small-group goalkeeper skill training sessions.
Participants will be divided into three programs corresponding to the player's skill level; the three
groups include Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.
- Beginner Sessions
Keepers will review the goalkeeping fundamentals at a early learners pace and emphasis will be on footwork, beginning-level techniques, and decision making under pressure.
- Intermediate Sessions
The Intermediate session will be for keepers U12, broken into developmentally appropriate training groups. The goal of the intermediate program is to develop fundamental skills and all-around, well-balanced goal-keeping skills
- Advanced Sessions
The Advanced goalkeeper session will be for Travel U12 and older keepers with prior keeper training and at least three years of experience (any others by GK Director approval only). The Advanced session is for keepers who have already proven themselves proficient in the basic technical aspects of goalkeeping and are looking to improve.
- Curriculum
Dynamic curriculum for the goalkeeper training program includes low and medium diving, basic shot handling, angle play, dealing with crosses, breakaway techniques and tactics, foot skills, deflecting, boxing and distribution while focusing on building proper technique during goal scoring opportunities.
Each participant must bring a ball, fluids and be dressed in appropriate soccer attire, including goalkeeper gear, soccer cleats and shin guards.
American Soccer Academy can also incorporate our renowned GK Training structure for Team and/or Club training sessions.
GOAL SCORING / STRIKER
The art of scoring goals is one of the toughest aspects a soccer player can learn. This element can sometimes be overlooked during regular team training sessions. Schedule an American Soccer Academy specialized trainer/coach to attend 6,8,10, or 12 weeks of team sessions to work with a group of players or incorporate the team training session to specifically work on this aspect. ASA's professional coaches will teach players how to think like a goal scorer and learn the technical, tactical, physical and psychological aspects to excel at this prestigious position. Goal Scoring/Striker clinics can also be scheduled for clubs and/or individual players.
